Change is Inevitable

Change is Inevitable

The time since my family returned to Sydney after our belated Christmas celebrations has been one of very deep reflection for me. I’ve thought about the life I wish to create and what I want to contribute to the world, and how successful I’ve been at it since commencing my business. Resonate and its future has been a big part of that contemplation.

I know that 2015 is going to be a year of radical change. I've felt it coming for a long time now. As a result, Resonate eMagazine will be changing its direction and will no longer be published as frequently. My business is in the process of transforming into something that sustains me physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally. While I get a lot of fulfilment out of producing Resonate, it doesn’t allow for the expression of my essence, nor has it proved to be something that’s easily putting food on my table, let alone creating the kind of lifestyle my spirit craves.

While I've loved pouring my heart into it, my soul has remained aloof.  While it's taken literally hours and hours of my time to put out requests for contributions, sift through them, make suggestions for tweaks here and there, lay out and publish Resonate and then provide the benefits I've promised to contributors, it's eaten into the time available for other things I feel called to put out into the world.

While I've personally resonated (pun intended) with each and every article I've published and have been overjoyed with the contributions from everyone who has been generous enough to contribute over the past 10 months, it's exhausted me.  My wish was for it to become a self-sustaining well of positivity and inspiration for every woman working to create their ideal lives, causing both them and the magazine itself to bloom and flourish.  While it's true that it's done this for some people, it hasn't grown the way I'd initially imagined.  There are so many more things I could have done to help it grow it's wings but in any situation there are always "I could haves".

I underestimated the amount of time it takes to produce something like this evenas infrequently as every second month and as a result my whole life became one of adhering to stricter deadlines than I've ever experienced, even when employed by others.  In the latter stages I wasn't missing those timeframes because interest was waning and that didn't make anyone feel good!  I began to resent it because it was taking time away from me - time that I could be spending creating the other things that call to my heart, time away from family, and time away from replenishing my soul.

My whole purpose in establishing Joy and Resonance is so that I can live an ethical life filled with quality and soul-fulfilling experiences and Resonate has ceased to do that for me.  If I no longer feel the love, then it's impossible to pass that on to others, be they readers or contributors so it's time to lay it to rest with love and reverence and gratitude for everything I've learnt, and all of the wonderful stuff that has been contributed, as a result.

It's not the end of Resonate.  It's being laid to rest so that it can rise again in a new form, as a quarterly publication aimed at addressing isses of creating and marketing an ethical business, full of tips and information about how to proceed and how to set up systems that will keep you sane and allow you to maintain the quality of your life while getting your business established. I'm undertaking a Diploma of Marketing this year to fill in the gaps in my pretty formidable body of knowledge in terms of business planning, systems creation and marketing and already have some stuff in the pipeline that I hope will provide practical, down-to-earth solutions for those just starting their business, and for those feeling overwhelmed and wondering how on earth they gain control back over a runaway monster.

If you'd like to follow my own business journey or find out what's in store as far as resources, special offers and information about creating an ethical business that's a source of good for everyone who comes into contact with it, please feel welcome to subscribe to my mailing list.  I'd love to journey with you for a while!
